Manitoban Participants Only

(Please note that all Manitoba participants MUST apply for the Manitoba competition. The Top students in the Manitoba competition will represent Manitoba in the National (CIHR) presentation).

In response to the rapidly evolving nature of the COVID-19 infection worldwide, our institution requested the immediate cancellation of large gatherings, including the CSHRF, in our facilities.

After learning from the participants of the demand for the event to continue, we have decided to offer CSHRF 2020 virtually!

Please review this page carefully as much of the information for participants has been updated to reflect the new format.

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2020 CSHRF MANITOBA VIRTUAL POSTER COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED

*Please note that the Symposium theme should not bias the poster content.
We welcome posters from across the breadth of the CIHR mandate.

As the forum is taking place virtually this year, there have been a few modifications to our normal programming please review this page carefully for the description of these changes.

The poster competition will take place virtually using Blue Jeans. We have arranged for presentations to be recorded through our IST department. Please note, recorded presentations will be limited to 10 minutes. This will allow our judging committee to review the presentations prior to the assigned judging time. Presentation recording times will be assigned for the week of July 27 - 31, 2020. Judging Q&A sessions will be assigned for August 21, 2020 in 10 minute time blocks via Blue Jeans. Please ensure prior to registration you will be available on August 21st.

Please see the following section for further information regarding preferred poster presentation formatting.

Each participant will submit a 10 minute pre-recorded presentation of their 'poster'. Our IST Department has agreed to help participants in recording these presentations in an effort to maintain continuity between presentations as well as avoid any IT issues with submission. Once registration has closed, IST will contact participants via email to schedule a recording appointment. Presentations will be recorded the week of July 27th - 31st. Further instructions regarding recordings will be provided after registration has closed.

The format of this presentation is ultimately up to each presenter but we request that presentations designed with PowerPoint (or slides of any kind) be limited to no more than 10 slides. Recorded presentations cannot exceed 10 minutes in duration.

The judges are most likely not experts in your specific area of research. The topics covered in this competition are very broad and logistically it would be near impossible to provide close expertise. However, the judges have been selected based on their success as scientists in their respective fields and their broader knowledge of science.

As with any presentation, the audience must be taken into account and the information delivered accordingly.

TIME FRAME

20 minutes have been allocated per abstract as follows:

10 minutes for presentation (do not exceed this time)

3 - 5 minutes for questions

5 minutes for the judges to discuss your poster between themselves.

Judges MUST keep to the time allocated so failing to leave sufficient time for questions will penalize you.

WHAT YOU WILL BE JUDGED ON

1. Organization

2. Clarity of presentation (Background, Hypothesis/Research Question(s), Methods (e.g. study design & analysis technique), Results, Conclusions)

3. Visual appearance of your presentation

4. Response to questions

5. Defense of results
