Christmas Crafts provides directions for creating 18 different holiday related projects that range from the very simple, such as the “Christmas Countdown Clock” or the paper “Christmas Stocking,” to the more complicated, like the “Holiday Truffles” or the “Yummy Yule Log.” Each project occupies a pair of facing pages. An introductory “You Need” box lists the required materials, none of them costly and many of them already present amongst the recyclables in most homes. Numbered step-by-step instructions, accompanied by full color photos, clearly guide the young crafter through the stages needed to create each project. Whenever a craft project requires adult help, such assistance is obviously noted via a symbol.
In addition to its value in the crafts section of school and public libraries, Christmas Crafts also has a place in home libraries, and its contents should be brought to the attention of adults who serve youth groups such as Cubs or Brownies. Recommended. Dave Jenkinson teaches courses in children’s and YA literature at the Faculty of Education, the University of Manitoba.
