CM . . .
. Volume VIII Number 6 . . . . November 16, 2001
This tape collection of five stories is aimed at engaging the entire family
in wholesome stories. It includes Christmas stories and lessons a child
can learn from the spirit of Christmas. "When Happiness Knocks"
is about how love can be found unexpectedly. The tapes are read by two
women, and there are few sound effects.
This tape, although its intention to provide
children with healthy moral lessons is laudable, does not hit the mark.
What is most critical is that the stories lack a consistent theme, and
the content is not always consistent with younger children's understanding
of the world. The paucity of music or other sound effects makes it difficult
to sustain a child's attention while listening to someone read (the
longest story is 25 minutes).
In trials both with children and adults, Cherished
did not hold their attention. Adults surveyed were not inclined to purchase
it for their families.
Not Recommended.
