Weigel's new AV˛ series of media enhanced books is a unique combination of published, hand-held books with exciting online extensions. While books about sports have never had trouble flying off the shelf, this book on martial arts will entice readers to try it out. The history of the sport is clearly explained and the required equipment listed and illustrated. All types of martial arts are explained, including taekwondo, karate, hapkido, kungfu, tai chi and judo. Rules, moves and ways to stay healthy are explained in simple to read text and coloured, action photos. Legends and superstars of the sport include Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Gina Carano.
Weigel's usual superior format includes a contents, index and glossary. An added feature is the "Brain Twister" at the end, and readers will certainly want to go online to learn more. This book and others in the 'In the Zone' series are recommended for any elementary school library.
