excerpt:

"Hold on!" screamed Mrs. D.

I gripped the handrail as hard as I could while the bus slid and bumped across the road and back again. Then there was the scream of metal crunching metal. We hit the metal guard rail beside the road. If we were in a car, the rail would have bounced us back.

Craig, Rory, Lerch and Ben are all friends and players on their school's basketball team. It hasn't been a good night with the loss of their game, but with a storm coming in, a long bus ride home and the roads already icy, things could certainly get worse. Unfortunately, in a matter of seconds, they do. Mrs. D., the best bus driver at the school, loses control on an icy hill and rolls the bus which ends up over an embankment. Craig, Rory and Lerch appear relatively unhurt, but Ben is seriously injured and Mrs. D. is unconscious. And if that's not bad enough, the whole situation is about to get worse.

Paul Kropp, author of more than 50 novels written for young people, has written another exciting book. The characters in this high interest novel are interesting and realistic, allowing readers to feel like they are part of the group. The storyline moves quickly from one event to the other, leaving the boys to solve problems that take ingenuity and quick thinking. The use of more basic vocabulary allows readers at various reading levels in this age group the pleasure of success reading a novel that will keep their attention until the end.

Highly Recommended.
