In this series of books, Daniel Cook is a six-year-old boy who introduces young readers to interesting places and things at the same time he is having fun doing so. This is Daniel Cook at the Farm educates young readers about farm animals. The book begins with Daniel’s visiting a small farm where he introduces readers to a variety of animals such, as sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, donkeys, horses, cats, and dogs.

A mother pig, or sow, carries her babies for 115 days. She gives birth to litters of 6 to 12 piglets. The piglets drink their mother's milk for 28 days.

This is Daniel Cook on a Plane educates young readers about learning how to fly. Daniel shows some flying basics, including checking that the plane is safe to fly. In addition, Daniel points out the many names of parts of an airplane as well as the many types of planes. The book mentions Orville Wright who was the first person to fly when Orville and Wilbur Wright's self-built Flyer took off on December 17, 1903.

By experimenting with gliders and kites, the Wright brothers discovered that the secret was in a movable tail, movable wings and an engine.

Both books have numerous colored photographs and instructions for playful activities. For instance, young readers can make a finger-puppet farm by making animals with felt and glue. Another activity involves crafting a paper airplane.

In addition to the books, This is Daniel Cook is also a children's television series produced by Toronto's marblemedia and Sinking Ship Productions in association with Treehouse TV and is shown on both networks in Canada and United States. Daniel Cook is the host of the live action show and shares his point of views. Illustrated with full colour photos, This is Daniel Cook at the Farm and This is Daniel Cook on a Plane are highly recommended for preschoolers, and they would be a great addition to elementary schools and appropriate for all public libraries.

Highly Recommended.
