THE KEEPER OF THE ISIS LIGHT
Volume 10 Number 4.
After twelve years alone as guardian of the Isis Light on a colony of Earth, Oliven must suddenly deal with other people when eighty settlers from Earth arrive to establish a society. They must come to grips with the pressures they place on her after all the years of solitary bliss; her own maturing process also complicates her life. The changes in her personality as a result of these struggles make her the focus of attention in the story.
Monica Hughes creates and sustains interest in the novel through clear description and fast-paced narration. Although avid science fiction buffs will find nothing new, the action is interesting enough to involve most junior readers. Growing up in an alien environment is a theme with appeal for most adolescent fantasies. The novel would make good pleasure reading for students in grades 6 to 8.
