THE ELECTRONIC CLASSROOM

The Electronic Classroom is an excellent introduction for any school planning to begin using communication technology. The Canadian Education Association report clearly lays out the advantages of a sound developmental plan that incorporates a feasibility study, an engineering systems design, equipment specifications and installation, and checkout documentation and staff training. The booklet explains complicated concepts in language that makes them clear and logical for the novice.
Types of videodiscs are clearly explained and visually presented with simple clearly labelled diagrams.
The second half of the booklet deals with microcomputers in education. Several models are listed with the advantages and disadvantages briefly covered. The goals for instructional use with computers are clearly presented. The reader will appreciate the fact that the barriers to the goals stated are also presented. School boards, teachers, and administrators will appreciate the listing and explanation of criteria 4n selecting a microcomputer. There are eight references, which will no doubt prove useful to a department that is in the initial research stage of choosing communication technology.
This report will prove useful as an introduction to any board or department seeking information at the introductory phase in choosing computers or videodiscs.
