Kurt Browning, three-time men's World Champion figure skater, was born in 1966. Writing your autobiography before reaching the age of thirty would usually seem presumptuous, but Kurt Browning tells a story that will be of interest to the legions of figure skaters and fans in Canada.

Browning writes very well for a young man with limited writing experience. He combines personal background, technical information on figure skating, details of competitions and training, and introspection. For the latter, he is not afraid to admit when he has made mistakes (e.g., he says, "my ego gained the upper hand" after he won the Canadian Novice Championship in 1983, and his next competitions were disasters, for which he received a well-deserved tongue-lashing from his coach). On the other hand, he describes the euphoria he feels when things go well and explains why he loves skating so much.

The book contains some interesting photographs, an appendix listing his competitive record from 1982 to 1992, and brief sections written by his parents and coach.

Recommended.
