The University of Manitoba Singers choral ensemble is a finalist in the Association of Canadian Choral Communities National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs.

They are competing in the category of Mixed-Voice Collegiate Choirs. Winners will be announced at Festival 500 Sharing the Voices, an international festival that begins in July 3 in St. John’s, NL.

Now under the instruction of Elroy Friesen, associate professor in the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music, the U of M Singers previously won the CBC Radio National Amateur Choir Competition. Prior to Friesen, the ensemble was under the direction of Henry Engbrecht, now a Professor Emeritus.

The 40-member choir has toured the Americas and Europe, and in 2011 represented Canada at the Vaasa International Choral Festival.  You can listen to them perform a song here.
