The official opening of the ARTlab at the University of Manitoba took place on Thursday, April 12, 2012.

At the opening, President David Barnard was joined by: the Honourable Erin Selby, Minister of Advanced Education and Literacy; Rod Bruinooge, MP Winnipeg South; and Paul Hess, director, School of Art.

The Art Research Technology (ART) lab is a multidisciplinary art and technology centre, for both the School of Art and the Faculty of Music.

This is the last of the seven Knowledge Infrastructure projects to be officially opened. In total, seven projects were funded at the University of Manitoba, more than any other university in Canada. These included a new laboratory for regenerative medicine and the construction of this avant-garde centre for creative design and performing arts.

The ARTlab project supports Canada’s Science and Technology Strategy through the creation of state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories and classrooms that will assist in attracting, retaining and training students at the University of Manitoba.
