Advisory: Getting in motion for Sneaker Day

Media are invited to join hundreds of University of Manitoba staff, students and faculty on campus at lunchtime tomorrow (Thursday, June 10, 2010) for 2010 Sneakers in motion Day.

The popular annual event that aims to get the university community in the habit of active, healthy living will take place at the west end of the recently rejuvenated Curry Place, the pedestrian mall that runs east from Frank Kennedy Centre toward University Centre.

Activities for the event include a warm-up featuring Beau & Tom from 99.9 BOB FM, a short or long walk, and the chance to go through an obstacle course. After the walk, prizes will be awarded for participants in the Slickest Sneaker, Grooviest Headwear, and Bust-A-Move categories, among others.

This year, The Honourable Jim Rondeau, Manitoba’s Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors Minister, will join in the celebration. Sneakers in motion Day is hosted by the University of Manitoba, in collaboration with Winnipeg in motion.
