U of M Dental Alumni Association to honour musician at inaugural alumni event
Burton Cummings will become the first recipient of Honourary Membership into the University of Manitoba Dental Alumni Association on October 16.
“To recognize his talent, his social conscience, and his years spent as a vociferous proponent for all Winnipeggers, Burton Cummings stands as one of the most remarkable citizens in our city’s history,” said Dr. Frank Hechter, a member of the UMDAA organizing committee.
Cummings will be returning to Winnipeg especially for the occasion as he is currently on tour.
His stellar career spans four decades and includes a string of hit records as lead singer for The Guess Who and as a solo artist.
Cummings will receive his honourary membership as part of Welcome Back,
Bannatyne, the UMDAA’s inaugural alumni event on Friday, October 16, at the Hotel Fort Garry.
The evening will also include the annual Alumni of Distinction awards to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of oral health professionals who have made a positive impact on the profession and in the community.
The event is open to all and media members are also invited to attend. A limited number of tickets are now available for the evening by calling 204-789-3631 or by emailing dent_events@umanitoba.ca.
