News Archive:

January, 2012:

We have been informed that the "Post Op Cardiac Surgery Nurse Practitioner Clinic - Transition from Hospital to the Community" has been recognized as a Leading Practice by Accreditation Canada.

Congratulations to the Nurse Practitioners in Cardiac Sciences for a job well done! Their dedication to their patients and the program has assisted in ensuring safe and improved patient care. The clinic idea was started by Susan Mertin some years back, and Sandra Christie has picked it up and followed through in bringing it to fruition. It is the hard work of the NPs, clinic nurses and clerks that have made this project such a resounding success.

On behalf of the Cardiac Sciences Program, thanks to all of you for your hard work and dedication to the cardiac patients of Manitoba.

This Leading Practice will be posted on the Accreditation Canada website so it can be shared with others (http://www.accreditation.ca/knowledge-exchange/leading-practices/).

Congratulations to:

Dr. Rakesh Arora, Co-Medical Director of the Intensive Care Cardiac Surgery (ICCS) unit at St. Boniface Hospital was recently awarded the Dr. F.W. DuVal Clinical Research Professorship by the Manitoba Medical Services Foundation and the Manitoba Health Research Council. Dr. Arora will use this award in leading a national effort to identify and reduce post-operative delirium in cardiac surgery patients.
