Biographical sketch: Jovan Jovanovich was born in Belegrade, Yugoslavia on July 28, 1928. He obtained a B.Sc. from the University of Belegrade in 1950. He completed an M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Manitoba in 1956. In 1961, he received a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. He worked as a Research Associate and Assistant Physicist at the Brookhaven National Labratory from 1961 to 1964. He was a Research Officer at the University of Oxford from 1964 to 1965. In the fall of 1965, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Physics Department at the University of Manitoba. He was elevated to Associate Professor in 1967 and Full Professor in 1979. Dr. Jovanovich spent two sabbaticals working at CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research) in Geneva, Switzerland. He retired in 1998 and was made a Senior Scholar in 2001.

Dr. Jovanovich did research in sub-atomic physics until about 1983. He then became interested in the issues of energy, nuclear power, environment, economic development, and the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl accidents. He has published in professional journals and newspapers. He has lectured to both technical and lay audiences.

Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Jovan Jovanovich in 2006.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of 10 series. They include articles, conference papers, symposiums and reports, Jovanovich's research, Jovanovich's student material, teaching material, Physics Department material, grant applications, correspondence, research material, photographs, and microfilm.  The photograph collection consists of 51 photographs, 452 slides, and 37 glass plate negatives.  The microfilm collection consists of 9 reels of microfilm.
