Title: James B. Hartman fonds.

Biographical sketch: James B. Hartman has a Ph.D. in Philosophy.  He is an Associate Professor in Extended Education at the University of Manitoba. He has published articles for the Manitoba Historical Society on the history of music, theatre and church organs in early-Winnipeg and Manitoba.  He has also wrote articles for the Journal of the International Society for Organ History and Preservation. In 1997, the University of Manitoba Press published his book, The Organ in Manitoba: A History of the Instruments, the Builders and the Players. He donated his photograph collection depicting various church organs in Manitoba Churches to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in 2008.

Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by James B. Hartman in 2008.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of photographs of various church organs located in Manitoba churches, which were used in James B. Hartman's book, The Organ in Manitoba: A  History of the Instruments, the Builders and the Players.
