Biographical sketch: Reverend Thomas Hart was born in Paisley, Scotland in 1835 and came to Canada as a child in 1842. He was educated at Queen's University where he earned an M.A. and a B.D. He began life as a school teacher in Perth County and then moved to Manitoba in 1872 where he was to teach classics and literature at the Presbyterian Church’s Manitoba College until his retirement in 1909. One of the founders of the University of Manitoba, Hart served on the University Council and was, as well, a member of the Provincial Board of Education. He was moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the West from 1880 to 1890. One of the founders of the Manitoba Historical Society, he served as its President from 1887 to 1888. He was also involved in missionary work amongst western Aboriginal Peoples. He died in Winnipeg in 1912.

Custodial history: The donor, Carolyn Crane, found the fonds among old books. Carolyn Crane donated the postcard to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in 2004.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of a postcard notifying a meeting of the University's Committee on Standing to be held December 7, 1904. The postcard was mailed from the University of Manitoba to Reverend Dr. Hart. Doodles in graphite have been added to the address side. The doodles include a domestic building, a tree, and several Greek words.
