Biographical sketch: Shirley Grosser received a Bachelor of Arts from United College in 1958. She obtained a Bachelor of Social Work in 1962 and a Master of Social Work in 1966 from the University of Manitoba. She was employed by the YMHA from 1959 to 1969. In 1969, Grosser joined the University of Manitoba as a lecturer at the School of Social Work. She became an assistant professor in 1972 and an associate professor in 1976. She was made a Senior Scholar upon her retirement. Grosser developed several courses during her academic career. They include Mind/Body Connection, Symbolic Interaction and Psychodrama, as well as several courses related to AIDS. She was active in many professional and community organizations including serving as Chair of the Board of Klinic Inc. from 1983 to 1986, The Canadian Association of Gerontology from 1971 to 1993, the Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women from 1981 to 1993, and several AIDS organizations.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Shirley Grosser in 2006.
Scope and content: The fonds is separated into four series. They include biographical information & academic presentations, teaching material, photograph collection (PC 206) and tape collection (TC 119).
