Biographical sketch: Martin J. Fewster was born in 1915 in Roland, Manitoba. He attended elementary school and high school in Myrtle, Spirling, and Roland, Manitoba. He worked for three years in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and during World War Two worked at a Massey-Harris aircraft assembly plant in Toronto. He spent most of his working life in Kenora and Dryden, Ontario, as a direct salesman for Watkin's Products. After the death of his first wife, he married Phyllis Esther Davis in 1973. Fewster's life-long interest in poetry and, to a lesser extent, song writing began in high school but did not develop until later in his life. Most of the poems in his collection (only a few of which have been printed) were written after 1972.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated by Martin J. Fewster to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in 1992, 1993, 1997 and 2010 .
Scope and content: The fonds consists of over 1,000 unpublished, type-written poems, some lyrics to his self composed songs, and a few photographs.
