Title: Committee of Nomination fonds

Dates: 1936-1968

Extent: 2 cm of textual records

Administrative History: Formed in 1936, the Committee of Nomination of the University of Manitoba was composed of the members of the Board, the members of the Senate and six members elected by the Alumni Association. The Registrar was the secretary of the Committee. The Committee was responsible for making and submitting nominations to the Lieutenant-Governor-in-Council for the office of Chancellor. The Secretary later transferred the nominations to the Minister of Education. The method of selection of a Chancellor was outlined in Sections 44 to 48 of the University Act.

Scope and Content: The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence and the constitution of the Committee of Nominations. Information on the selection of Chancellors, term of office length, requirements and committee members is included.
