Extent: 4.3 m of textual records. -- 129 photographs.

Administrative History: In 1906 the study of plant
science at the Manitoba Agricultural College fell under the Department
of Agriculture, Horticulture and Farm Forestry. In 1907, the study
of plant science fell under the Department of Agronomy and the Department
of Horticulture and Forestry. The Department of Field Husbandry
replaced Agronomy in 1908. The study of soils was added again in
1912. In 1928 the Department of Field Husbandry and Horticulture
and Forestry merged to form the Department of Plant Science. In
the same year the Department of Agronomy became the Department of
Soils. The first Extension efforts began under Professor Bedford
in the Field Husbandry Department in the summer of 1912. Experimentation
efforts began by the same department in 1914.
Custodial History: The Department transferred
records to Archives & Special Collections in 1988.
Scope and Content: The series consists of correspondence,
lecture notes, annual reports, research and grant proposals. Also
included are files relating to: Faculty Council of Agriculture;
graduate studies; wheat research and experimentation; University
of Manitoba Small Grant Budget; the International Development Research
Center; and building construction and maintenance. Both colour and
black and white photographs and negatives are located in PC 17.

contain confidential information and are not available for research
without the permission of Archives & Special Collections.
