UA 21, PC 17

Title: Faculty of Agricultural and Food Science fonds, Department of Entomology series

Dates: 1917-1981

Extent: 2.7 m of textual records. -- 64 photographs. -- 13 negatives.

Administrative History: Entomology became a separate Department within the Faculty of Agriculture in 1920. A full professorship in Entomology was established beginning with the session in 1930-1931. An annual one or two week's short course in beekeeping was offered between 1923 and 1956. In 1951 the first M.Sc. student graduated, and the first Ph.D. student graduated in 1962.

Custodial History: The Department transferred records to Archives & Special Collections in 1988.

Scope and Content: The series consists of correspondence, departmental council minutes, a scrapbook, and newspaper clippings. Also included are files relating to graduate students, courses, research grants and projects, insect research and experimentation, the Greater Winnipeg Mosquito Abatement District Technical Advisory, staff, the Entomological Society of Manitoba. amd the Northern Studies Committee. Both colour and black and white photographs and negatives are located in PC 17.
