Title: Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Canadian International Development Agency (Kenya) Files series

Dates: 1966-1984

Extent: 1.6 m of textual records. -- 16 photographs.

Administrative History: Beginning in 1968, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), in cooperation with the University of Manitoba, gave Kenyan students an opportunity to learn from Manitoban farmers by working on Manitoban farms. Additionally, Kenyan students observed agricultural extension methods and programs in Manitoba by observing agricultural representatives at work and by assisting them. The program was arranged with the Director of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry in Nairobi. Similarly, professors from the University of Manitoba traveled to Kenya.

Custodial History: Debbie Mechler from the Dean's Office transferred CIDA Kenya files (R.C. McGinnis), dated from 1970 to 1983, to Archives & Special Collections in 1989.

Scope and Content: The series consists primarily of files relating to research projects as well as: papers prepared by staff at Njora, Kenya; Dean Shebeski's notes from his trip to Kenya; and files of Dr. J.J. Njorage, Chief Research Officer of the Department of Agriculture, Kenya. Both colour and black and white photographs are located in PC 17.
