Administrative History: The School of Agriculture coordinates the Diploma Course in Agriculture program and offers a variety of certificate, non-credit, and professional development programs for the agri-food industry on behalf of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.Between 1906 and 1912 Manitoba Agricultural College offered a two-year diploma course in Agriculture to students with common school standing. In 1913 the course was extended to three years until 1929. In 1930 the diploma program was shortened to two years. At first the Diploma Course in Agriculture was intended to provide vocational training to Manitoba farmers who had not completed High School studies and obtained matriculation standing. Although regular instruction in Home Economics began in 1911, the first diploma course was not offered until 1920. This course covered two winter terms of five months each and provided practical instruction in domestic science. In 1969 the Diploma Course in Agriculture was formally under the administration of the School of Agriculture. Professor Eugene H. Lange, B.S.A., M.Sc. was the first Director of the School. The program continued to offer instruction in both farm and agricultural business.
