Title: Robert Arnold Wardle fonds

Biographical Sketch: Robert A. Wardle was born
to Robert and Mary Ellen Wardle in November 1890 in Clifton, England.
He graduated with honours B.Sc in Zoology from Manchester University.
In 1928 he became the head of the Department of Zoology at the University
of Manitoba. He authored and co-authored books, supervised over
30 M.Sc and Ph.D students, and made many more contributions. He
retired from the University of Manitoba in 1958 as a Professor Emeritus.
He also established a Zoology Department at the University of Winnipeg,
then retired again in 1962. He passed away in January 1974.
Custodial History: The fonds was donated to the
Archives & Special Collections in 1988 by the the Canadian War
Museum.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of one diary
from a research trip to Sudan and Egypt in 1925, one scrapbook containing
newspaper clippings, pamphlets and excerpts, a published biography
of Robert Wardle, and a handwritten account of the genealogy of
the Wardle family.
