with his wife and three daughters, Phoebe, Kathleen, and Ruth, after
he retired as an army officer in the British Army in 1908. He had
previously spent twenty-one years of his army career in India attached

where he and his wife brought up their family of two sons and three
daughters. Of his three daughters, Phoebe was a registered nurse
and lived most of here life in Florida, Kathleen was a school teacher
in Manitoba and later Florida, and Ruth was a Pay Officer for the
Women's Naval Service during World War II, and then worked with
the External Affairs Department in Ottawa, Ontario. Edwin's two
sons had preceded the rest of the family from England two years
before. Henry John and David George returned to England during World
War I after enlisting in the Canadian Army, and both returned to
Canada in 1918. David brought his wife Effie with him upon his return.
By this time Edwin and his wife Lizzie Charlotte had settled in
Elm Creek and purchased the Elm Creek Hotel, then known as the Grandview
Hotel of Elm Creek. Henry John Walmsley married Mary B. Franzmann
of Fannystelle in 1914, and had one son and five daughters; Edwin
Jr., Ruth, Norma, Betty, Marie, and Dorothy. David George Walmsley
and his wife Effie returned to England with their sons, Robert George
