Title: Keith A.P. Sandiford fonds

Dates: 1975

Biographical Sketch: Keith Arlington Patrick Sandiford (born 1939 in Bridgetown, Barbados) has been called a pioneer in the historical sociology of sport. Educated Combermere School in Barbados, and the University College of the West Indies, he emigrated to Canada to pursue graduate studies at the University of Toronto. Completing his Ph.D. in 1966, he immediately took a position teaching history at the University of Manitoba, where he has since remained. Sandiford has written about Victorian politics and diplomacy, Victorian culture, Barbadian education, and the sport of cricket and its implications in history, as well as authoring volumes in the "Famous Cricketeers" series. Sandiford was twice awarded the University of Manitoba's Merit Award for his teaching ability. He has served as President, National Council of Black Education in Canada, the Canadian Ethnocultural Council, and the Canadian Labour Force Development Board.

Custodial History: Keith Sandiford donated the fonds to Archives & Special Collections in 1978.

Scope and Content: The fonds consists of an unbound typescript of an unpublished work on Canadian hockey entitled Watching the Boys of Winter.
