Title: Delbert Owens fonds

Dates: 1888-1891

Extent: 6 cm of textual records

Biographical Sketch: Delbert Owens was born in Ontario and came to Manitoba about 1900. He farmed in the Portage la Prairie area for a number of years, living in Highbluff, Jackson, Portage Creek, and Flea Island at various time. He died in 1965.

Custodial History: The fonds was donated to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Delbert Owens' son J.M. Owens in November 1995. J.M. Owens thinks the ledger is from the elevator in Highbluff, Manitoba.

Scope and Content: The fonds consists of a large Agricultural Account Ledger of a terminal grain elevator near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The ledger includes accounts of warehouses in Ogilvie, Minnedosa, Burnside, Binscarth, Austin, Gladstone, and McDonald, Manitoba. Ledger also includes accounts with many Winnipeg grain families such as Richardson, Sutherland, Armstrong, Rathburn, Kirkwood, Drysdale, Ashdown, and others.
