Title: Archbishop Matheson fonds

Biographical Sketch: Samuel Pritchard Matheson
(1852-1942) began seeking support to build a church in 1876 and
became the first minister of All Saint's Church, Victoria, Manitoba
in 1877. While he was the Canon of St. John's Cathedral he was also
a professor of theology at St. John's College. Matheson was appointed
as the 2nd Chancellor of the University of Manitoba in 1908 and
was succeeded by John Dafoe in 1934. Between 1905 and 1936 he was
the Archbishop of Rupert's Land and Primate of All Canada from 1909.
Scope and Content: The fonds consists of one letter
from Archbishop Matheson to A.V. Mitchener at Manitoba Agricultural
College dated November 17, 1919. Archbishop Matheson's letter is
a response to Mitchener's request for information on the grasshopper
plague of 1867-1868.
