Title: Vernon Leroy Dutton fonds.

Dates: 1926-1944.

Extent: 0.08 m of textual records. -- 4 photographs.

Biographical sketch: Vernon Leroy Dutton was born in 1911. Dutton received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba and his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Penn State. Dutton taught courses in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba from 1957 until 1979.

Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Professor Leroy Vernon Dutton of the University of Manitoba Engineering Department in 1977. The fonds was originally classified as UA SC 36 but was reclassifed as MSS SC 49 in 2005 to more accurately reflect its provenance.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of three manuscripts of student summer theses in Engineering titled: A Treatise on plain and reinforced concrete arches, by Andrew Mar in 1926; A Study of ductility and its relationship to stress concentration in a simple single-pin connection, by D.H. Maclean in 1944; and The Internal combustion engine, by Lawrence Labow in 1931. PC 38 includes four photographs depicting substation equipment of electrically operated coal docks.
