Title: Hans Braun fonds.

Dates: 1994.

Extent: 0.01 m of textual records.

Biographical sketch: Hans Braun was born in 1941. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy. He is Professor of Sociology and Social Policy and Deputy Director of the Canadian Studies Centre at the University of Trier, Trier, Germany. Braun has authored and edited numerous articles and books in English, French and German. He has also written on a variety of topics including post-Second World War Germany, Canadian society, and a comparison of European and North American postmodernism.

Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in 1995.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of a 15 page unpublished article titled "In Search of Security: Postwar Germany Between Reconstruction and Modernization." Braun's article focuses on the situation in Germany after the Second World War ended in 1945, its occupation by Allied Forces, the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic in 1949, and a notable anti-political trend in the 1950s.
