Title: Winnipeg Citizen fonds

Dates: 1919 & 1948

Extent: 1 cm of textual records

Administrative History: The Winnipeg Citizen put out its first paper the morning of March 1, 1948, and ran production until April 13, 1949. The paper arouse out of the typographical union's strike against the other Winnipeg newspapers. The fonds consists of the March 1, 1948 edition. The fonds also contain a complete run of 1919 Winnipeg Citizen published as an anti-labour paper by the Citizens Committee of 1000.

Custodial History: Several issues of the Citizen were purchased by the Archives & Special Collections in 1987. Another issue was donated by Hugh Gunn in 1988.

Scope and Content: The fonds consists of several copies of the entire publication run of the Winnipeg Citizen (May 19 - June 20, 1919), an anti-labour newspaper published by the the Citizens' Committee of 1000. There is initial edition of 1948 Winnipeg Citizen as well.
