Title: Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada fonds.

Dates: 1995-1996.

Extent: 0.01 m of textual records.

Administrative history: The Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada (AUCC) is a national non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that is funded through membership fees and revenues from publications and contract management services. The AUCC represents 93 Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities and university colleges. The AUCC provides a forum for discussion and a framework for action at the federal level, and facilitates the development of public policy on higher education. It was founded in 1911 and its membership ranges from small, undergraduate liberals arts institutions to large, multi-campus universities offering a broad selection of undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. The activities of AUCC are coordinated by its secretariat, located in Ottawa.

Custodial history: The custodial history of this fonds prior to its arrival in University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections is not known. This fonds was originally titled "Scholarly Community, Report on" but this was changed to the present title in March 2002 to reflect the provenance of the fonds.

Scope and content: The fonds consists of two documents created by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. The first is a printout of a document titled Towards A New Paradigm for Scholarly Communication - Discussion Paper prepared by the AUCC-CARL/ABRC Task Force on Academic Libraries and Scholarly Communication which was published in electronic form on the AUCC website, November 8, 1995. This document outlines the problems and opportunities facing academic libraries in regard to academic communication issues in the 1990's. The second document is a published brochure titled the Changing World of Scholarly Communication: Challenges and Choices for Canada and is the final report of the AUCC-CARL/ABRC Task Force on Academic Libraries and Scholarly Communication in November 1996.

Source of supplied title: Title based on provenance of the fonds.
