May Cameron Stewart fonds, 1889-1980

MSS 139, PC 146

May Cameron Stewart was born in Rolling River, Manitoba in 1889. She was the fourth of ten children of Duncan and Sarah Cameron. In 1907 she begun her teaching career and taught throughout the Canadian West. In 1936, while teaching in London, England, May married Ian Robert Hillier Stewart. The couple resided in London for the remainder of their lives and had no children. May Cameron Stewart died in London in 1982. Custodial history: The fonds were donated to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections in 1997 by Allison Mitcham. She is the daughter of May's sister Alice Cameron Brown whose papers are also located at the University of Manitoba Archives. Allison Mitcham's papers are located at the University of Saskatchewan Archives.

The fonds consist of personal documents, certificates, correspondence, geneological material, original manuscripts, poetry, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, chap books, momentos, photographs, and slides.
