Don Parker fonds, 1917-1989

Don Parker was born in 1917 in Sanford, Manitoba, where he was
raised by his parents, James and Rae Parker. After serving in the
Royal Canadian Air Force from January 1940 to 1945, he became one-third
partner in his father's Machine Agency and one-half owner of a farm
near Sanford with his brother Douglas. He married Bernice in 1952,
who had come in 1951 from the Carberry area to be assistant principal
of Sanford High School. Don served on the Sanford-Ferndale History
Committee and was instrumental in writing and in collecting historical
information for the book Sanford-Ferndale, 1871-1987, a historical
account of the area which was published in 1989. Don and Bernice
had two daughters: Debra, who was born in 1957 and Heather, who
was born in 1959 but who died soon after her birth.

This fonds consists of short histories written and submitted by
the families included in the aforementioned history, early drafts
of various sections of the book, a publisher's draft of the book,
and a binder of photostats of pictures and images to be published
with the book
