Don Parker fonds, 1917-1989

MSS 132

48 cm of textual records

Don Parker was born in 1917 in Sanford, Manitoba, where he was raised by his parents, James and Rae Parker. After serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force from January 1940 to 1945, he became one-third partner in his father's Machine Agency and one-half owner of a farm near Sanford with his brother Douglas. He married Bernice in 1952, who had come in 1951 from the Carberry area to be assistant principal of Sanford High School. Don served on the Sanford-Ferndale History Committee and was instrumental in writing and in collecting historical information for the book Sanford-Ferndale, 1871-1987, a historical account of the area which was published in 1989. Don and Bernice had two daughters: Debra, who was born in 1957 and Heather, who was born in 1959 but who died soon after her birth.

Donated to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Don and Bernice Parker on 29 November 1995
