Biographical sketch: T. Herman and Delores Keahey
are renowned music performers and musicologists. They both taught
at the University of Manitoba, School of Music during 1980's to
2005. Dr. T. Herman Keahey became a director of School of Music
in 1983.
T. Herman Keahey studied music at the Yale University and the University
of Texas. He became an oboe performer and musicologist. His primary
interests are in the field of sacred music (the late 15th century)
and the oboe concerto of the late 18th century. He was an editor
and contributor to the collection of sacred music publications Opera
Omnia Pierre de La Rue (1989) and Johannes Prioris Opera Omnia (1982).
He also edited numerous works written for the oboe in the 18th and
early 19th century and is the author of many articles published
for "Grove Dictionary of Music".
Delores Keahey was a professor of piano and musicology at the University
of Manitoba. She studied piano with J. Earl Lee at the Augustana
College; Kathleen Long at the Royal College of Music in London;
Bruce Simonds at the Yale University ; and Egon Petri at Mills College.
She specializes in chamber music of the classical period (especially
J.C. Bach) and published many editions of the 18th century music.
She was an artistic director and pianist for "Ivory Echoes:
Chamber Music Series" held at the University of Manitoba School
of Music during 1991-2000.
Custodial history: The fonds was donated to University
of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by T. Herman Keahey in
2005.
Scope and content: The fonds consists of correspondence,
research material, and music sources for "Opera Omnia Pierre
de la Rue"; material collected during T.H. Keahey teaching
carrier at the University of Manitoba; and his numerous
editions of 18th and 19th century oboe concertos. The fonds also
consists of
Ivory Echoes Library; programs; performances; D. Keahey study and
edits of J.C.
Bach music and rare manuscript editions for Ivory Echoes Chamber
Music Series
performances.
