You may visit any unit library to borrow materials, but you can also use the Library Catalogue (BISON) to request delivery of materials from one unit library to whichever one you prefer. Requests should arrive in 3 to 4 working days. BISON sends notification by email when the material arrives. See library staff to verify that we have your correct email address on file.
Use the Document Delivery Patron Request Form to request materials not held by the UML. Consult the Library Catalogue (BISON) to ensure that the item is not available at the UML before placing a Document Delivery request. If you have not made a document delivery request before, read the copyright, loan period, and fee information.
The Document Delivery service provides access to research material not held in the UML. Some materials may not be available: theses and dissertations; rare books; entire journal issues; paper editions of newspapers; photocopies of entire publications; and anything a holding library does not wish to lend.
Help completing the Patron Request Form is available online or ask for assistance at any of the following Document Delivery units:
Elizabeth Dafoe Library, 474-9873
E.K. Williams Law Library, 474-6712
Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library, 789-3707
Carolyn Sifton-Helene Fuld Library (St. Boniface General Hospital), 237-2807

You may borrow materials when at many other academic and special libraries in Manitoba and Canada, including but not limited to those listed below. All UM faculty, staff, and students may register for borrowing privileges at any institutions taking part in reciprocal borrowing agreements with the UML. Particular borrowing privileges vary from institution to institution. Return materials to the lending library directly (in person or by mail).
To register at another institution, present a valid UM photo ID card. If you intend to visit other Canadian post-secondary institutions or Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC) institutions, obtain an appropriate reciprocal borrowing card from us before you go.
UM faculty, staff, and students are subject to the regulations at any other institution they visit. In the case of overdue loans or other breaches of library regulations by UM faculty, staff, and students, other institutions may provide borrower information to the UML. Borrowing privileges may be suspended at the UML until such problems are reconciled.
