Welcome to the University of Manitoba
Architecture/Fine Arts Library's
Gardens and Landscapes Image Collection
The impetus for this project came with the generous donation of slides from the
Nelson family following the death of Prof. Carl Nelson Jr., a long-time member of
the Dept. of Landscape Architecture within the Faculty of Architecture.
Changes in technology and priorities meant that these slides would not be added to
our Slide Collection holdings. Instead, we launched a digital initiative under the
banner of the UM Libraries' Digital Collections. Elizabeth Stevens, Library Assistant,
Slide Collection completed the cataloguing and scanning of the Nelson donation with
assistance from the Libraries' Technical Services department and Jonathan Roby of
the Libraries'Electronic Technologies and Services. Additional garden and landscape
images from the holdings of the Slide Collection will be added to this collection as
will future donations.
