Money & Finances

Citizenship and Immigration Canada requires international students to be able to support themselves and their dependents without the need to work in Canada.  International students must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to pay for their tuition, living expenses, and transportation out of Canada at the end of their studies.

Students are encouraged to establish a budget to ensure that they will have enough money to pay for all of their expenses.  Actual expenses will vary according to the student’s program of study and life-style.  The cost of living in Winnipeg may be higher than expected.  When estimating living expenses, consider the cost of accommodation, laundry, utilities, food, clothing, transportation, recreation and entertainment, telephone, television, etc.   Students should also consider fluctuations in currency exchange rates that may reduce the buying power of their currency in Canada.
