Manitoba Breast Tumor Bank Personnel

Director
Dr. Peter Watson is a Professor in the Department of Pathology, University of Manitoba and currently combines a clinical practice in breast surgical pathology at St Boniface Hospital with an active cancer research laboratory program and direction and function of the MBTB. He has had the privilege of dedicated time over many years to train in cancer research (1988-1993), to develop a breast cancer research program at the University of Manitoba (1993-present), and to construct the MBTB as an international research resource. This has been possible through departmental and faculty support at the University of Manitoba, and external support from the National Cancer Institute of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Institute of Cancer Research, and the US Army Breast Cancer Research Program. He continues to contribute to national efforts to foster Tumor Banking. Dr. Watson’s own research program is focused on the identification of molecular alterations that are functionally associated with progression of breast cancer and that may yield specific indicators or targets for therapy. In the course of this research we have been amongst the pioneers in the application of molecular technologies to microdissected breast tissues and this experience is shared with all users of the MBTB.

Tissue Manager
Ms Linda Snell is a senior registered technologist who manages the tissue laboratory of the MBTB. She has extensive experience in histotechnology and clinical pathology as well as molecular analysis of gene expression by immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and RT-PCR. Her role includes overseeing the collection, dissection and processing of breast tumor samples, tissue release including sectioning frozen and paraffin blocks and related tissue preparation.

Data Manager
Ms Michelle Parisien is a certified tumor registrar who manages the database of the MBTB. Her role includes collecting primary case and tissue data from clinical charts and pathology reports, follow-up data collection, and clinical database management including data query to select case cohorts for studies.
Assistant Manager
