Research Interests

There are four full-time dental hygiene academic members and approximately 10 part-time dental hygiene academics who provide instruction to students in the classroom, laboratories and clinics. Dental and basic science educators also provide instruction in the curriculum. Current research interests among faculty members include:

  • Wellness in the workplace
  • Oral health knowledge of undergraduate education students,
  • A health promotion conceptual model of dental hygiene practice,
  • Indicators of periodontal (gum) disease,
  • Oral hygiene compliance
  • Conceptualization of the occupational status and culture of dental hygiene
  • The link between systemic disease and periodontal disease
  • Quality assurance in dental hygiene practice
  • The use of evidence-based decision-making among dental hygiene practitioners
