A minor, but important, component of my teaching "chores" at St. Petersburg State University was organizing field trips to various places of mineralogical interest. In 1996, Anatoly Zaitsev and I took a group of third- and fourth-year students to the Lovozero Mountains in the Kola Peninsula. This was one of the brightest groups of students I have ever supervised. Many of the guys on this photo (taken on the top of Mt. El'morajok and overlooking Lake Seida) have chosen mineralogy as their lifelong interest and professional commitment.
