Welcome to the research pages in the Faculty of Science.
Research and Graduate studies are fundamentally intertwined, each supporting and being strengthened by the other. The "research enterprise" carried out by both faculty and graduate student researchers is at the core of what a university is about.
To create new knowledge, to solve important problems, to be effective in teaching, to train the next generation of leaders and to contribute in meaningful ways to our communities' needs, it is vital to provide a vibrant research environment.
In all departments of the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba, both the faculty and graduate students thrive on research and make research-related contributions that are widely recognized and that have local, national and international impact.
From the theoretical to the applied, Faculty of Science researchers provide a broad-base of research expertise that is available to students and the community at large.
The Faculty of Science has many strong research collaborations in addition to its numerous talented individual researchers. Some of our research is multi-disciplinary and spans departments, faculties and institutions (in Canada and abroad), while other research is discipline-focused and found within individual departments.
The Faculty is proud to have outstanding, internationally-recognized researchers and graduate students in all its departments. Our Faculty includes seven Canada Research Chairs (CRCs), Chairholders are research leaders or rising stars in natural sciences and engineering, health sciences, or social sciences and humanities.
Our researchers and graduate students are funded by numerous organizations including the major granting councils, federal and provincial government agencies, industrial partners and various national and international organizations. They work with cutting-edge, research infrastructure awarded competitively in national and international competitions and produce results that change lives for the better around the world.
We invite you to explore our website and those of our constituent departments to learn about what we do, why it is important and how we continue to make a difference for people in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and across the planet.
