Experience Researach

Each summer, many students have the opportunity to work alongside professors in their research labs. If you are interested in working in a lab for the summer, September is the time to start making enquiries so you can apply for an Undergraduate Student Research Award. Check with your Professors or with the Departments in the Faculty of Science to learn more about summer student research opportunites. Funding for summer research is provided by a number of sources including: NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council), the Facutly of Science or through grants held by professors in the Faculty of Science. If you are considering Graduate Studies, a summer research award will give you first-hand experience with a research project.  Give it a try!

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)  -
$6000 Cash Award

 

2nd, 3rd, 4th year students.

Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.Visa students are not eligible for NSERC awards.

Selection is based on cummulative GPA. Minimum cummulative GPA of 3.5 or higher is required. GPA of 4.0 or higher is normally necessary to be competitive. 

 

Check with the Departments and Professors/Instructors. Supervisors must be a member of the Faculty of Science or adjunct professor and must hold a NSERC grant. Application Form is completed by a Professor/Instructor and submitted to the Dean's Office. Electronic scan or pdf of current Aurora online transcript. NSERC Aboriginal
Undergraduate Student Awards (USRA) -
$6000 Cash Award

 

2nd, 3rd, 4th year students.

Undergraduate Research Awards - Faculty of Science
$5500 Cash Award

 

2nd, 3rd, 4th year students are eligible to apply. Must be currently registered in the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba.

The Jack Prior Award - $6000 Cash Award

 

2nd, 3rd, 4th year students who have taken a minimum of 80% of a full course load leading to a major or honours degree in Science. Must be currently registered in the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba.

Minimum cummulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.Applicant must have demonstrated community involvement and/or leadership.

Gesser Award - $6000 Cash Award

 

Chemistry students in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year taking a program leading to a major or honours degree in Chemistry.

Minimum cummulative GPA of 3.5 or higher is recommended.

 

Check with the Chemistry Department and Professors/Instructors.Supervisors must be a member of the Faculty of Science or adjunct professor.Application Form is completed by a Professor/Instructor and submitted to the Dean's Office. University of Manitoba Undergraduate Research Awards -
$6000 Cash Award

 

Full-time U of M students (must be enrolled in 24 credit hours at the March 19th voluntary withdrawal date) Have completed a minimum 24 credit hours at the University of Manitoba. Minimum GPA of 3.0 based on all credits completed at the time of application. Cannot be held in conjunction with other competitive awards such as the NSERC Undergraduate Research Summer Award. Students who will be graduating in the Spring (May convocation) in which this award is tenable will not be eligible for the award.This award cannot be held more than twice by any recipient during their undergraduate program(s) at the University of Manitoba.

Clayton Riddell Faculty of Earth, Environment and Resources - NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) - $6000 Cash Award


2nd, 3rd, 4th year students.
Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.Visa students are not eligible for NSERC awards.Selection is based on cummulative GPA. Minimum cummulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended.

 

Supervisor must be a member of the Riddell Faculty of Earth, Environment and Resources and must hold an NSERC grant.
