MESSAGE TO ALL CHEMISTRY GRADUATE STUDENT APPLICANTS This is to advise you that your application could be rejected because the prospective graduate supervisors you identified has decided not to recommend your acceptance. Furthermore, your application is circulated but the Department CANNOT AND DOES NOT secure supervisors on behalf of applicants. In the Department of Chemistry graduate supervisors are required to pay a minimum stipend to their graduate students. The stipend has to be paid out of their research grant funding. Therefore, it is the prerogative of each individual researcher to determine if they want to accept another graduate student. You may have satisfied the academic requirements for admission, but you cannot be recommended for acceptance as a grad student in this Department unless you secure a supervisor who has the grant funding and is willing to support you financially.
