On a dark and chilly Wednesday morning in late November, twenty-three Let's Talk Science volunteers met in Machray Hall at 7:00am(!) to journey out to rural Manitoba to work with elementary school children in the Beausejour Early Years School. The volunteers prepared all the materials in advance for seven different kit activities ranging from Glow Germs to Matter Matters to Bone Zone. They worked in 17 different classroom, with a combined total of 408 students.
This year's outreach is the LARGEST school endeavor that the UM, LTS group has ever conducted! Despite the early morning and the busy day, volunteers ensured they were back at the UM to attend their 2:30pm labs! Well done volunteers!
A special thank you to the LTS coordinators for all their hard work, and an extra special thank you to Murtaza Kapasi who oversaw the entire massive and exciting undertaking!
