3 - Defensive tackle Israel Idonije leaves for San Francisco tomorrow
to prepare for the biggest college football All-Star game in North
America, the East-West Shrine Bowl.
Idonije
is one of two Canadian college players that was selected to join
the NCAA's best at PAC Bell Park January 11 in a showcase of some
of the top collegiate football talent in the United States.
Adam
MacDonald of St. Francis-Xavier will be joining Idonije as the other
Canadian. MacDonald won the President's Trophy as the top CIS Defensive
Player in 2002 and recently signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Idonije,
who won the J.P. Metras Trophy as the top lineman in Canadian College
football this season will have a busy schedule during the following
week that includes a player's visit to a local Shriner's hospital,
several team practices, an NFL work day, a reception hosted by the
Mayor of San Francisco along with numerous other activities.
Idonije
and MacDonald will represent the East. As a defensive lineman, Idonije
will spend part of the game chasing down Seneca Wallace, QB for
Iowa State. QB Ken Dorsey of Miami will lead the offence for the
East.
The
week culminates with the game on Saturday January 11 with the kickoff
slated for 11:00 AM Pacific time at Pacific Bell Park, the home
of the San Francisco Giants.
