June 8 ­ The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation Studies along with Bison Sports is pleased to announce that Coleen Dufresne has been named the new Athletic Director at the University of Manitoba.

Dufresne is no stranger to the University of Manitoba and the CIAU as she has been the Head Coach of the women's basketball team here for the past 17 years, a tenure that saw her win three National Championships (1987-88, 1994-95, 1995-96).

Dufresne is also a three time CIAU Coach of the Year award winner, receiving the honour twice as Head Coach of the Bisons (1987-88,1997-98, ) and once as the Head Coach at the University of New Brunswick (1982-83).

In addition to her head coaching duties, Dufresne has also served as the assistant Athletic Director for the past eight years, so the transition to Athletic Director is a perfect fit for both Dufresne and the Athletics Department.

She will take over the Athletic Director duties from Walt McKee who has held the position since 1993. McKee will now become the head of the Service Unit in the Faculty and will see his main duties encompass the areas of Athletics, Recreation Services and Facilities.
