The Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research’s Research Grant provides funding for research projects. There are two (2) awards available with funding up to a maximum of $7,500 each.

MCNHR Graduate Student Research Grant
Deadline: April 1 and October 1


The MCNHR is pleased to offer graduate student research grants to support the costs associated with thesis or dissertation research projects for graduate students being supervised by a College of Nursing faculty member. Successful applicants of this competition will be awarded either a College of Nursing Endowment Fund Graduate Student Research Grant or a Kathleen and Winnifred Ruane Graduate Student Research Grant. There are four to six (4-6) awards available for funding, Masters students are eligible to request up to $3,000 to support their thesis research projects and PhD students are eligible to request up to $5,000 to support their dissertation projects.

MCNHR Collaborative Health Research Grant

The MCNHR Collaborative Research Grant Fund was established to support the development of collaborative research in the College of Nursing, University of Manitoba. This fund provides an annual research grant in the amount of $7,500 to support research projects that involve collaborative teams of researchers and knowledge users.

College of Nursing Endowment Fund Research Grant in Professional Foundations

The College of Nursing Endowment Fund Research Grant in Profession Foundations provides small-scale funding for research into areas considered to be foundational to nursing as a profession. Professional foundations include topics such as history of nursing and nursing work-life, professional ethics, and nursing administration as well as topics critical to the College of Nursing, such as research into new, innovative approaches to nursing education and issues related to student life. There is one (1) award of $7,500 available for funding.

Fort Garry Branch Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Trust Fund Research Grant

With funding from the Fort Garry Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Trust Fund, the purpose of the grant is to provide support for a research project whose outcome contributes to either enhancing care of veterans or their families or contribution to enhancing care for older adults in Manitoba.  There is one (1) award of $3,000 available for funding.

B. W. Fallis Parkinson’s Care Research Grant

The B.W. Fallis Parkinson’s Care Research Grant provides funding for both qualitative and/or quantitative research examining the physical and/or psychosocial aspects of Parkinson’s disease (PD). This includes but is not limited to projects aimed at improving quality of life and care for persons living with Parkinson’s and/or their families; examining ethical issues that arise during the care of people living with PD, increasing our understanding and treatment of non-motor and motor symptoms of PD; addressing issues related to family caregiving, and facilitating access to services and supports for people living with Parkinson’s disease and their families. Research can focus on any phase of the illness trajectory of Parkinson’s disease from early diagnosis to end-of-life care. Biomedical and/or bench research in Parkinson’s disease is not eligible for this funding opportunity. There is one (1) award of $4,500 available for funding.

MCNHR Graduate Student Travel Award

The College of Nursing Endowment Fund has allocated $3,000 a year to the Manitoba Center for Nursing and Health Research (MCNHR) to offer Graduate Student Travel Awards. Applications will be considered, on a first come first served basis, until yearly funds have been depleted.
