Research summary

Dr. Marnie Kramer’s (she/her) is a nurse education researcher. Her research focuses on student-centered interventions to promote learning and coping in educational contexts using qualitative research methodologies.

Her work integrates nursing and educational research methodologies to understand concepts such as stress and coping, affective learning needs, student failure, remediation, and theory-to-practice integration. Her current work is exploring threshold concepts for nursing education, mapping disparities in nursing education contexts, and examining the influence of coping styles on clinical nursing practice. 

Dr. Kramer utilizes the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®) as a case study for student learning and remediation frameworks. She engages in NCLEX-RN® support activities nationally for graduates requiring assistance after exam failure and leads educational innovation related to high stakes exam preparation.

Biography

Dr. Kramer is an experienced undergraduate educator and critical care nurse. She has worked with students in all years of undergraduate programs across Canada and is considered a national expert for NCLEX-RN® remediation.

She is the Co-Chair of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing Nurse Education Research Interest Group. Her relevant practice experience is in general systems intensive care and coronary care.

Dr. Kramer supervises students with interests in nursing education research and qualitative methods. Dr. Kramer volunteers with nursing graduates who are unsuccessful on the NCLEX-RN® and is currently creating an adaptive learning program to help students experiencing high-stakes failure in nursing education environments.
